mcville browser test

Introduction:

Long days have past since the battle between Internet Explorer and Netscape began. Today, there are a few “kids” in the game. Although Internet Explorer has the most of the browser market, professionals web designers and people who use the internet for business surly take other players in consideration.

Firefox 1.5.0.1
(Mozilla/5.0-Gecko/20060111-Firefox/1.5.0.1)
Developer: Mozilla Foundation

With easy and fast surfing, Fireofox is “Getting back the web”. With many extensions available, Firefox is probably the most powerful internet tool known to the common user. Firefox can handle many types of files, however, for some files such as movies or music, Firefox needs plug-ins or external applications that can handle those files. If Firefox doesn’t have the needed Plug-in or doesn’t know what application to use to open the file, it can still save the file to your hard disk. When saving files, you can keep track of them using the built-in Download Manager.

Plugins extend Firefox’s functionality and run within it. Plug-ins like Sun Java, Macromedia Flash, and RealNetworks RealPlayer, allow Firefox to show multimedia files and run small applications such as movies, animations, and games.
Most popular add-ons or extension for Firefox are: Gmail Notifier,Web developer,DOM Inspector,Greasemonkey,Bookmark Backup and many more.

Opera 9.00
(Build 8212 )
Developer: Opera Software
Opera has been on the net for a while. People say it is fast and safe. At first Opera wasn’t free, it had banner ads. Now, the company changed strategy and made Opera browser free.

The newest Opera 9 beta preview hasn’t changed from the 8 version in design. The new Opera has a new feature called widgets ( Calculator,Digital clock,Bach.org quotes,..),some of them are very handy while browsing (calculator) but some are just for cosmetic purposes. Also there is a little thumb site preview when you move your cursor on tabs. Mcville test overal rating: 40 points

Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 Preview
(Version: 7.0.5296.0,Cipher Strength: 128-bit)
Developer: Microsoft

Internet Explorer: well I think there’s not much to say. 89% of all users surfed with the IE 7 version that comes with the Windows operating system.

Web site preview in Internet Explorer is the worst. Allow me to explain: There is something that’s called a “Standard”. Web standards are made from people who wanted to direct the development of the web into a standard compliant direction across all browsers.
So there are standards like html in more versions, css in more versions and a few more…
These standards exactly define how the browser would display a web page by following rules governed by an overall standard compliance.

Possibly the most bad part in IE is the security aspect. Now what can I say? Over time, people will see the advantages of alternative browsers such as Firefox or Opera.
