Interivew with Brent Ayers at brentayers.com
Marko: Heya Brent !
Brent: Howdy Marko.
Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
Brent: I’m a 26 year old designer in Atlanta, Georgia. I am married to my wonderful wife Danielle, and we have two dogs, Whittney and Roxy. I work by day for a credit card processor called InfiCorp, and I run a site called GigScore and do some freelance work in my off time.
Marko: How are you doing these days?
Brent: Wonderful. Everything is constantly falling to place where I want it all to be.
Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
Brent: I think I was around 4 or 5, but it was a Texas Instruments TI-99. I loved playing Hunt the Wumpus.
Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
Brent: I don’t really have a favorite, but I have really been digging leihu.com a lot lately. James Mathias’ illustrations have really inspired me to start drawing again.
Marko: When you launched brentayers.com are you happy with the result of the site?
Brent: Absolutely. This is about the umpteenth version of the site, and it’s the first I didn’t absolutely hate by the time I finished it.
Marko: What do you do in your spare time (We realize that spare time, in this context)
Brent: Mostly hang out with my wife and the mutts. I play a lot of pool, and I also enjoy hanging out with my friends when our schedules allow. I’m constantly working on our house, which is a great release when I get to tear things up.
Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
Brent: Coffee and Mountain Dew. Probably a couple glasses a day of each.
Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for you ?
Brent: I get up around 6 a.m. and fight my way into the office. My general work day consists of studying new design techniques, designing interfaces used by our clients and employees, and creating credit card access sites for our clients. After I’m finished with the 9-5(more like 7-4), I go home and either work on GigScore, or any freelance project I might be working on.
Marko: I am always wondering how people such as yourself go about getting work? How do you do it?
Brent: My main income is my regular 9-5, but word of mouth is how I usually get freelance work on the side.
Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
Brent: The biggest influence of my career would have to be Wes Warren from Vexcom here in Atlanta. I learned a lot about project management and customer relations from him. My biggest influences right now would have to be David Lanham and James Mathias.
Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like?
Brent: I really started out as more of a programmer. While I was in school I studied program design and worked as a programmer, but after a couple design courses, I was hooked.
Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
Brent: I would be either be a mechanic, or a professional pool player.
Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
Brent: I love it. I think it’s great to get a little insight into the world of the designers you admire, straight from the designers mind.
Marko: If you could change something on mcville what would it be?
Brent: I’d probably get rid of the badge. It really goes against the rest of the site’s main scheme.
Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
Brent: Mostly Rock. I love Zeppelin and AC/DC
Marko: What’s your favorite food?
Brent: All the things my wife says are bad for me. Mainly Pizza.
Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
Brent: I don’t really have one place that I only go to, but we usually hang out in my game room with friends.
some relaxing question to follow
Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
Brent: Chinese. I love orange chicken!
Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
Brent: Pepsi. I know, being raised in Georgia it’s a sin, but Coke has always tasted like it’s got glass cleaner in it to me.
Marko: HTML or CSS?
Brent: CSS>
Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
Brent: I love Overhaulin. Maybe one day I’ll have an old beater my wife can have Chip Foose fix up.
Marko:What OS do you use ?
Brent: Windows XP
Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
Brent: A couple of PHP sites, and a bunch of sites my wife has saved. I’ve memorized most of the sites I visit daily.
Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.
Brent: My wife. I always love to make her proud of me.
Marko: Thank you for having this interview m8 ,cya!
Brent: Thanks for having me.
