What we did ,what are our plans and predictions for 2007.
Open Source Ambassador-at-Large and new mcville contributor:
Chris Messina:
2006 found me in the middle of my engagement with Flock. Turned out
that Flock was headed in a different direction than what I’d hoped for
and so went out on my own. Before long, I found myself starting a new
company called Citizen Agency with my partner Tara focused on product
development, community in-reach marketing and growing lead user
communities.
I would like to see where BarCamp is going to go next — and maybe
travel around more widely, get outside the Valley some more and meet
up with many of the international friends I’ve made over the past two
years. I’d also like to continue building out our company and getting
better at getting down to work.
Next year I think we’re going to see a maturing of a lot of the open
source co-production and community-centric ideas that have just
started coming out this year. I think OpenID and microformats are
going to see a groundswell of support and at the same time will
struggle to come into their own as viable communities. The ideas and
principles are strong, but can the communities actually adapt to all
the problems that come with wide adoption?
Personally, I’d like to figure out how to make Citizen Agency a leaner
and more focused organization, growing in my abilities to communicate
and lead while also of course learning to balance work and the
personal time I spend with those I most care about.
A struggle as always, but one worthwhile.

2006 in a nutshell for me:
A change of job (from TomTom to Dutch Open Projects), the year of PHP5 for me (after switching to PHP5 in october last year, this year I really learned the power of it). I was really impressed with the new version(s) of last.fm that were released, and have been an avid user of Kubuntu Linux, becoming a bigger and bigger fan of it. In 2007, for me I hope my work will get even better, I hope some of the projects I am involved with will come to fruition. For mcville I hope that 2007 will bring more great content, including maybe some articles other than interviews ;) I also look forward to all the great new designs on mcville that will see the light. In general, I think and hope that Open Source will get a bigger marketshare. I already see some things happening with Vista coming where for instance local governments are going for or at least looking at Open Source alternatives for Microsoft products. I hope this movement will continue in 2007.
I wish everyone a wonderful new year!
