Mute is a open source software which aims to facilitate improvised, unique visuals. Mute currently allows you to mix 3 channels of swfs and jpegs and apply up to 9 dynamic filters at a time.

Mute is open source software so there is great potential for third party plug-ins and collaborative development.
The current version of mute is beta 0.1 is unfortunately Windows only at the moment. If you a Mac user you can contact the developers to test the OSX alpha version.

it would start to be interesting when they would allow mpeg and avi as well.
