David Hellsing Interview

Interivew with David Hellsing at monc.se

Marko: Hello David !
David: Tjena.

Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
David: I’m 27 years old and currently living and breathing in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Marko: How are you doing these days?
David: Ups and downs. But work is good.

Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
David: My dad had a “computer” at his University when I was a small kid that was about 5 × 5 meters. It covered up the entire room. He had to print out cards with holes in them from his office and then run down to the basement before he inserted them into the computer. Eventually the computer would print out the results after lunch. My first personal experience must have been with the Vic16 at my friends place when I was about 10.

Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
David: Anything that inspires and challenges my ego.

Marko: when you launched monc.se / stylegala are you happy with the result of the site?
David: Yes. Stylegala is coming on really well, but the monc site is soon the be changed.

Marko: What do you do in your spare time (I do realize that spare time, in this context, is pretty relative)?
David: Socialize.

Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
David: Must be a vodka/cranberry juice with lime and russian (don’t know if it has a name). And I’m always up for a frozen margarita.

Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for David Hellsing?
David: Coffee, table tennis, meetings, phone talking, reading, coding, drawing, photographing in no particular order. I stopped working from home a while ago, so now I always head down to my office which I share with a bunch of other designers and creative heads.

Marko: I am always wondering how people such as yourself go about getting work? How do you do it?
David: I don’t hunt, it just comes.

Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
David: My friends and family.

Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like? How did that take place and why?
David: Yes, I started off as a designer. It took almost 5 years before I slowly got into web dev and the main reason was because I wanted to expand as a designer and to get a wider range of clients.

Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
David: Firefighter.

Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
David: It’s ok. I’m not too found of the menu and how it automatically expands upon hovering. I also think you have too many badges and not enough articles about meat salads… Seriously, it’s doing good and I like the black & whites, but i also think it could improved and I’m looking forward to it.

Marko: O it’s really that bad? ( :)
David: No. But I’m a terribly picky judge. Don’t listen to me.

Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
David: Right now I’m into cheap covers of jazz standards, preferably performed by german easy-listening bands from the 70’s. And I can always listen to disco and electro from the golden ages.

Marko: What’s your favorite food?
David: Meat.

Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
Good question. Daytime I try to meet up with all my hard working friends and family. At night, we probably meet again in a different environment. Sometimes I take small trips to copenhagen, stockholm or malmš.

some relaxing question to follow

Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
David: None. I’ve had too much of those.

Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
David: Coke.

Marko: html or css?
David: Html.

Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
David: That one with german bikers riding up the hill and then falling down.

Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
David: google

Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.
David: People with ideas & beauty in all it’s shapes.

Marko: Thanks again for having this interview, cya m8!
David: No problem. Good luck!
