Tim Benzinger Interview

Interivew with Tim at timbenzinger.com

Marko: Heya Tim! !
Tim: Why hello there Marko.

Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
Tim: I’m a 19 year old problem solving, graphic designing, visually communicating kind of guy.

Marko: How are you doing these days?
Tim: These days aren’t bad. I have the greatest friends a guy can ask for, I learn new things everyday, I bought a new cell phone, and the lifestyle of a designer keeps getting better and better.

Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
Tim: The first time I encountered a computer (or part of a computer) was in 1998 when my father got my family a Gateway computer for Christmas. It was funny because I wasn’t expecting one but when a shipping company came knocking at the door with a computer, it didn’t take much time for me to figure out what was going under the tree that year.

Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
Tim: My favorites are always changing but there are a few that stick out. I have always loved the ideas and meanings behind the art of Robert Rauschenberg. Christopher Dang was the first graphic designer I was inspired by, Asterik Studio always seems to impress me, and Scott Hansen of ISO50 always has work that I drool over.

Marko: when you launched timbenzinger.com are you happy with the result of the site?
Tim: My online portfolio reflects my style, my life and my views. So yes, I am happy with the result. It also has fun “easter eggs” throughout the site that makes the viewing experience that much better.

Marko: What do you do in your spare time (We realize that spare time, in this context)
Tim: I like to spend time with my friends, listen to music on my iPods, talk about design, and eat food.

Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
Tim: I recently found myself drinking a lot of coffee. Other than that I would have to say iced tea.

Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for Tim Benzinger?
Tim: Unless I have to get up early, the alarm on my cell phone goes off at 8:00am. I roll out of bed around 8:40am. Head over to my PowerMac, tickle the mouse to wake up the computer. Check if I got e-mail. I then put on some music, respond to the e-mail, and design pretty things until my lunch break. Eat lunch and head over to Border’s where I buy books on design, business and anything that catches my eyes. I go home, design some more, hang out with friends and get some dinner. Hop in bed at 11:30pm or 12:00am.

Marko: I am always wondering how people such as yourself go about getting work? How do you do it?
Tim: A lot of it has been word of mouth but a great deal of it also comes from my web presence. At the moment I am looking to find a nice studio to work for.

Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
Tim: Friends, family, college professors that have different views them me and other designers.

Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like?
Tim: When I was about 10 years old, I saw a web site and said to myself, “Self, I want to do that.” So I learned the ways of a Web Designer. I then got sick of web design and began doing print work. I practice both to this day. It was tough to get started at such a young age, who in there right mind would hire a little kid that can’t even sign a contract?

Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
Tim: A writer or an educator.

Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
Tim: There are a few things I would change, but over all, I enjoy the content.

Marko: If you could change something on the site what would it be?
Tim: The navigation doesn’t work properly in Safari (My browser of choice). I’m not too fond of the typeface used for your header text. Maybe some more color. Don’t take these as an insult, just suggestions that can improve a user experience.
Marko: offcourse m8

Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
Tim: I listen to a lot of Punk Rock. Though, I listen to many genres and love all types of music.

Marko: What’s your favorite food?
Tim: I would have to say spare ribs. Can’t get enough of it.

Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
Tim: Can you believe I have a college course Saturday morning!? It’s math. Otherwise my Saturday’s are pretty random.

some relaxing question to follow

Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
Tim: Chinese tastes better.

Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
Tim: Pepsi

Marko: html or css?
Tim: Is this a trick question?

Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
Tim: Sometimes I find myself watching “Trading Spaces.” Hah, I have no idea why, it just happens sometimes. CSI is a show that I don’t mind watching though.

Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
Tim: Over 400 links! I add everything to that bar sadly. My bookmark menu’s are fairly organized though. You can find links to blogs, design portals and showcases, resources, bands, and other things that sparked my interest.

Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.
Tim: Friends, family, music, books, nature, shiny things, and anything that pops and idea into my head.

Marko: Thank again for having this interview Tim ,Cheers!
Tim: Marko, this is the best interview I have ever had with a guy named Marko.
Marko: :) hehe
