Interivew with Trevor Delamorandiere at personaldevelopment.ca
Marko: Heya Trevor !
*
Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
Trevor: I am 25 years old with a 9 month old son named Ryan. What a great kid! I am an e-Commerce/Web Developer as my primary career and
run a business located at http://www.e-velocity.org as well as run my personal web site located at http://www.personaldevelopment.ca
Marko: How are you doing these days?
Trevor: I’m doing good. Very busy but good.
Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
Trevor: I hated computers up until I was 17. I was playing guitar and found out that I can print guitar tabs from the internet, so I started to enjoy computers more. I was getting into the chats and hotmail, but I still did not know how to “connect” to the internet.
Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
Trevor: My favorite art work… I’d have to say Salvador Dali. As for favorite web site… Hmm. http://www.bartelme.at is my favourite for mac talk and art.
Marko: when you launched personaldevelopment.ca are you happy with the result of the site?
Trevor: Quite frankly i was surprised personaldevelopment.ca gathered this much attention. While I was developing the web site I wanted to keep it simple and straight to the point but when people such as Dave Shea from mezzoblue.com notice it and my business web site I must be doing something right. So yes, I am very happy with the results.
Marko: What do you do in your spare time (We realize that spare time, in this context)
Trevor: On my spare time I play my acoustic guitar and program c as a hobby. If I get bored with those two things I am usually out on my snowmachine in the winter.
Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
Trevor: My favorite drink would have to be coffee. I drink about 4 cups of it throughout the day. It’s what keeps me sane during BUSY weeks. As for an actual beverage; it’s got to be a Root Beer. I drink it a few times a week.
Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for Trevor Delamorandiere?
Trevor: I am awake at 5:00am – 5:30am because Ryan, my son, thinks that being awake before birds is fun which is alright with me anyway. I then start work to get ahead at that time. Then its off to my office at 8am with my trusty iBook (Soon to be Powerbook). I sit in my office with my coffee all day with my partner Scott Buckingham and work, usually involving meetings throughout the day with clients and/or prospective clients. At 5pm I go home and hang out with Ryan while lesley heads to the gym, watch some t.v then go to sleep for another 5am day.
Marko: I am always wondering how people such as yourself go about getting work? How do you do it?
Trevor: I actually don’t even know! Every client comes to me lately and word of mouth. When I first started the business I had 1 client, he was a friend of the families best friend. Things just progressed from there.
Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
Trevor: Dave Shea, Dan Cederholm, and WolfGang from bartelme.at. Without these guys influencing me in so many ways I wouldn’t be where i am today.
Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like?
Trevor: My background is actually system administrator. It progressed into web development and design a few years ago when I attended college. I really got into photoshop and realized I had some artistic abilities. It was to the point where the professor was asking me to write a few tutorials for some of the tricks I was doing. That brought something out in me and realized that I can do both as a second language.
Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
Trevor: I would be a vet or vet assistant.
Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
Trevor: Yes I really like the simplicity in the design, without simple we’d all lost in a flea of dust mites.
Marko: If you could change something on the site what would it be?
Trevor: The background-color could use a slight pattern and a lighter color
Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
Trevor: Anything acoustic, I like hip-hop too.
Marko: What’s your favorite food?
Trevor: Anything Seafood
Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
Trevor: Saturday’s are usually reserved for road trips to either Toronto to go shopping and to get away from Sudbury for a while or North Bay because of the gap and to just get out. I love driving.
some relaxing question to follow
Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
Trevor: Chinese
Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
Trevor: Coke
Marko: html or css?
Trevor: both, separate structure from presentation :)
Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
Trevor: Yes, Prison Break, Simpsons, and Family Guy.
Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
Trevor: Anything related to design, css tricks, and feeds of all my favorite web-standards blogs.
Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.
Trevor: My son is what keeps me going everyday, without him I wouldn’t be me.
Marko: Thank again for having this interview Trevor ,Cheers!
