Interivew with John Peele at rockbeatspaper.net
Marko: Heya John! !
John: Hello Marko!
Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
John: I am 31 and happily married with two AMAZING children. I live in Kernersville, North Carolina. I own a web development company called Rockbeatspaper and my brother is my partner, yo what’s up Dave!
Marko: How are you doing these days?
John: I am going great these days. I have an amazing life. My life is filled with awesome relationships and blessing. I do what I love day in and day out and never seem to truly tire of it. I know my life has purpose, is that too deep?
Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
John: Hmmm, let me think. It must have been a summer science and math camp in 7th grade. We were programming BASIC on an Apple IIe making things run across the screen and solve our elementary math equations. I didn’t even realize the difference between a Mac and PC until college. How funny is that?
Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
John: I have a lot of favorite websites. I absolutely am addicted to Engadget. I am a gearhead to the core! They seem to know everything that is going on in the world of tech. I am constantly on the look for my next cellphone or gadget. I like Jeff Croft, Jon Hicks, A List Apart, Stylegala and the 37Signals crew.
Marko: when you launched rockbeatspaper.net are you happy with the result of the site?
John: We built that site a year ago. And when we launched it we were fairly pleased with it. We wanted a one-pager on purpose. But is any designer ever truly “happy” with anything they do? We are constantly seeking perfection, but are also learning that our best effort is usually much better than we think. We are currently in the middle of a redesign, so expect a new site within the next month or so.
Marko: What do you do in your spare time (We realize that spare time, in this context)
John: I love designing and building furniture. I have designed and built every piece of furniture in my son’s room. I also have a passion for God and Christ, spending time with my family, soccer, reading and interior design.
Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
John: I LOVE milk!! I can drink a gallon at a time. We buy 4 gallons a week! I don’t really have much of a taste for beer or alcohol, but I do like a Yuengling or a Margarita Rocks every now and then.
Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for John Peele?

John: We have been VERY blessed over the past year! 99.5% of our work is referral based. I guess our clients are very happy with what we do for them and like to tell other people about us. We do get some leads from our website.
Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
John: God
Nature
Magazines of all kinds
Black & white photography
We Work For Them
David Carson
Scandinavian design
Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like?
John: I went to the School of Design at North Carolina State University. It was an incredible program. I actually majored in Industrial/Product Design because I wanted to design cars and blenders and cellphones. I was taking a class for Macromedia Director and got turned on to interface design as a result. NC State was very influential in the early adoption of the web at the time. So I had to take some Fortran programming classes for some graduation requirements, and that combined with the graphic design classes and the Director classes got me headed in the right direction. I was hired before I graduated by a company back home in Greensboro and the rest they say…
I have learned almost everything on my own, much like everyone else in this industry has. I have acquired my style by paying attention to other influential designers and then mixing what I learn from other disciplines with my own tastes. Sounds fancy huh?
Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
John: Furniture designer or potter
Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
John: It needs some more structure. It’s a bit too loose right now. Maybe lose some of the banners. The white space is good, so work with that. The drop-down menus on rollover have got to go!
Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
John: I am so schizophrenic when it comes to music. One minute I am listening to rap and hip hop and then christian rock ten minutes later. Classical, electronic, we have jazz playing in the background in the office during the day. Jazz really makes me happy. But then again, so does everything else that I listen to.
Marko: What’s your favorite food?
John: I love Asian cuisine. I also love breakfast foods, pancakes, biscuits, sausage and eggs
Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
John: Usually I am at home with the family taking advantage of our Blockbuster Online membership or our DVR
some relaxing question to follow
Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
John: Thai for sure
Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
John: Neither, don’t really care much for sodas. But I do like Diet Coke with Splenda
Marko: html or css?
John: Both, but HTML if I have to choose one. You can do some great-looking and simple layouts with just plain HTML
Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
John: Try not to watch too much TV. But I do have a couple of favorite shows… Prison Break, 24 and anything on Food TV
Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
John: Too much… The same list as I mentioned before.
Marko: What inspires you? This doesnít have to be design related.
John: God, and I truly mean that! It is amazing for me to think about God and what he has created. Talk about the ultimate designer!!
Marko: Thank again for having this interview John ,Cheers!
John: Thank you Marko! Have an awesome day!!

Thank you! :) JR Ordonez Interview
