Interivew with Alessandro Fulciniti at html.it (contributor)
Marko: Heya Alessandro!
Alessandro: Hi Marko, nice to meet you.
Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
Alessandro: I’m italian and I was born in 1975. I’m a columnist for the italian webdesign portal html.it
since almost two years, and I’ve written about 90 articles on CSS, javascript and webdesign.
There are some articles I’ve written in english too, some of the readers could know my
work on nifty corners. Since May, I’m an author for web-graphics.com
Apart from writing, my ordinary work till now doesn’t have nothing to do with
webdesign.
Marko: How are you doing these days?
Alessandro: Well, I feel always serene. But those are very busy days since I’m going to finish
the newer version of Nifty Corners, that I’ll present soon in italian and english.
Besides, I’ve just changed work so it’s a transition period.
Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
Alessandro: When I was 16, my first computer was a 286.
Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
Alessandro: There are many, but probably one of the most appealing website for me it’s forgetfoo.com
The use of ajax is really impressive, and the content is interesting, entertaining,
sexy and funny. What I like most is that its design is always evolving.
Marko: when you considered to contribute for html.it are you happy with it till now?
Alessandro: Yes, joining them was one of the best opportunity I had. Writing
is always challenging, especially finding new ideas for my articles.
Besides, my skills on webdesign are always improving, and I’m proud to
contrubute to spreading webstandards in Italy.
Marko: What do you do in your spare time (We realize that spare time, in this context)
Alessandro: Mainly writing articles and developing techniques on CSS and javascript. Besides,
I use to keep me informed on webdesign.
I like a lot reading: in the last year I’m interested in creativity, and I’m
currently studying lateral thinking. Spare time is always too few…
if I had more, probably I’ll try to start painting seriously.
Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
Alessandro: Definitely Red Bull, usually I have three or four per week.
I tend not to exagerate, since I also drink a lot of coffee too.
Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for Alessandro Fulciniti?
Alessandro: My life at the moment is quite various, so I cannot define a tipical day.
Fixed points are that generally I wake up very early, between 6 and 7am and go
to sleep quite late, about 1am. Generally my days are very full, and often I wish
I had more time to relax and think.
Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
Alessandro: Well, the first one is probably Eric Meyer. I think he’s one of the person with the
deepest knowledge of CSS in the world. He’s a pioneer, and probably I started learning
CSS being fascinated by his articles. Also, I love the level of details and completeness
in the writings of Russ Weakley.
For javascript, Peter-Paul Koch, Chris Heilmann and Bobby Van Der Sluis are between
my favourites. As webdesigner, I like the works of Dan Cederholm. Finally, I believe
that Roger Johansson is at the moment one the best blogger on webstandards.
I’m often impressed by the quantity and the quality of his posts.
Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like?
Alessandro: I haven’t a background in design, even though sometimes I like reading books on
design and typography. “Design with type” by Carl Dair is probably one of my favourite books,
even if it was written in 1967.
I started studying CSS when I felt the need of a new hobby, and to be honest I couldn’t
have imagined to reach similar levels of knowledge. Being a programmer, it was easy
to learn the basics of javascript and the DOM.
Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
Alessandro: Probably a cook or a pharmacist.
Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
Alessandro: I love the black and white, but I feel that white space could be better distributed,
especially on the side columns. Probably an index page for interviews
and articles would be useful. Apart from that, overally I like it.
Marko: If you could change something on the site what would it be?
Alessandro: The cursive font for headings and photographs.
Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
Alessandro: I love listening to almost every kind music. Starting from Bach to hardcore punk,
passing throught pop, rap, chillout, nu metal and trance. It mainly depends on my mood.
Marko: What’s your favorite food?
Alessandro: Definitevely italian, especially pasta.
Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
Alessandro: Generally I go out with friends to a pub to talk and drink something,
or go to the cinema.
some relaxing question to follow
Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
Alessandro: Chinese, even because I never tasted Thai food.
Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
Alessandro: Coke, especially mixed with white Martini.
Marko: html or css?
Alessandro: CSS… but supported by a good and semantic HTML.
Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
Alessandro: I don’t like watching television… but I like
watching movies sometimes.
Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
Alessandro: Hundreds of articles on webdesign and creativity.
Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.
Alessandro: I consider myself a deep observer, and I’m always fascinated by everything around me. I think that curiosity it’s one the strongest gears of human nature, and it’s the essence of creativity.
In coding, I like to find new, different and especially
simple ways to get results. A perfect solution should
be simple, easy to understand and to reproduce.
Marko: Thank again for having this interview Alessandro ,Cheers!
Alessandro: Thanks to you Marko, it was a pleasure!
