Interview with Kyle Neath at warpspire.com
Marko: Heya Kyle!
Kyle: Hey there.
Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)
Kyle: I’m a 21 year old working as a Web Producer in San Luis Obispo, CA. I also attend Cal Poly studying Civil Engineering.
Marko: How are you doing these days?
Kyle: Super busy, but times have been great lately.
Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?
Kyle: Sometime in the early 90’s. My dad had some sort of computer that he used for various accounting purposes. To be honest, I was too young to even take note of what it was. I know it didn’t have a hard drive though.
Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?
Kyle: I’ve grown up around art my entire life so that’s a pretty hard question. I’ve always loved
John Stuart Berger’s work .
My favorite website changes by the day. Currently I’m really digging 9rules. It’s like a color orgasm.
Marko: When you launched warpspire.com are you happy with the result of the site?
Kyle: I would say so. I spent a really long time on this latest design and it’s something I can stay comfortable in for quite a while.
Marko: What do you do in your spare time (We realize that spare time, in this context)
Kyle: Build websites. Play disc golf. Play Beruit.
Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?
Kyle: Definately Captain’ & Coke. Can’t go wrong there.
Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for Kyle Neath?
Kyle: Wake up, and go to work or school, usually both before the day’s out. By the time I get home unfortunately I end up eating some dinner and then doing homework for the rest of the night. No rest for the weary.
Marko: I am always wondering how people such as yourself go about getting work? How do you do it?
Kyle: My current job actually found me. Last summer I was trying out the freelancing waters a bit and a local art director found my work online and offered me a job.
Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?
Kyle: Definately the guys I work with. A stellar crew of designers that amaze me day after day with the stuff pent up in their heads. Beyond individuals I would say Apple has really influenced me a lot. I really dig simplicity and elegance, and Apple beats everyone else in this department, hands down.
Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like?
Kyle: The two were kind of one for me. I started making websites back around 8 or 9 years ago and that lead to playing around with Photoshop & it’s derivitives. After I could design a website I wanted to know how to make it better, so I started learning server-side scripting languages. It’s all kind of been a natural progression for me.
Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?
Kyle: A Civil Engineer for sure. That’s not to say I won’t still be one too.
Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?
Kyle: I love it. It’s a great site to come to if you’re bored and want to read into how other designers & developers think.
Marko: If you could change something on the site what would it be?
Kyle: I think the right sidebar on the homepage. It just feels clunky to me. Too much stuff going on.
Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?
Kyle: Tons of music. I’ve always been a big Classic Rock & Reggae fan. I’m also a big fan of the classic stuff, Funk & Jazz – which lead me to Jam bands. Pretty much anything that’s not crap.
Marko: What’s your favorite food?
Kyle: Ribs. Baby back ribs. Damn, now I want some ribs…
Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?
Kyle: If time permits I try to hang out with some friends. That usually means some beruit and foosball at my house and then going downtown to hit up the bars for a while.
some relaxing question to follow
Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?
Kyle: Chinese.
Marko: Coke or Pepsi?
Kyle: Coke.
Marko: html or css?
Kyle: HTML.
Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?
Kyle: I don’t really watch television that often. But Battlestar Galactica is always a great.
Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?
Kyle: Some web design related news/review/forums, some Ruby/Rails resources, and a bunch of random things from recipes, to Volkswagen parts.
Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.
Kyle: Music. Art. Literature.
Marko: Thank again for having this interview Kyle ,Cheers!
Kyle: No problem, glad to have done it!
