Mat Wiseman Interview

Interview with Mat Wiseman at dressfordialogue.com

Marko: Heya Mat!

Mat: Hello, hello. Ooh, good start. You have no idea how many people spell my name with two ts despite having it right in front of them. Thank you for that.

Marko: np ;)

Marko: For our reader’s could you tell something about yourself? (year old and other stuff)

Mat: I’m 24, 25 in January. Currently residing in Christchurch, New Zealand with my beautiful girlfriend, Tracey. I am currently employed as the sole Web Designer at TML Publishing.

Marko: How are you doing these days?

Mat: Very good, thanks. Work has been steady. I’m healthy. And in the market for my first home.

Marko: When did you first encounter a keyboard or computer?

Mat: Late 80s/early 90s. My parents graciously introduced me to the Commodore 64 and I never looked back.

Marko: What is your favorite art work /website!?

Mat: Francis Bacon – Study after Velazquez’s Portrait of Pope Innocent X, 1953 / Bearskinrug

Marko: when you launched dressfordialogue.com are you happy with the result of the site?

Mat: Yeah, I think so. I’ve never really had any great expectations for it but I’ve been pleased with the feedback from others that I respect.

Marko: What do you do in your spare time (We realize that spare time, in this context)

Mat: A little xbox (not the cool 360 variety). Sketching. Listening to tunes. Spending as much time as I can with Tracey.

Marko: Do you have a favorite drink? How much of it do you drink?

Mat: I do. Bundaberg Lemon Lime & Bitters – it is divine!

Marko: Would you care to give us a brief overview of what a typical day is like for Mat Wiseman?

Mat: Wake at 7. Shower. Green tea. Depart for work. Get to work around 8.30. Check my emails. Peruse some of my favourite feeds before realising that I’ve spent far too long not doing any work. Do a little work. Check out how my consorts are doing on Whiskerino 2005. Do a little more work. Leave work at 5. Pick up my girl and head for home. Get home. Mess around for a little before sitting down for a lovely meal. Finish up and consider what my next bearded-photo will be. Take the shot. Fire up the Mac. Upload it to Whiskerino 2005. Make a couple of snarky remarks and check my email. Hang out with my girl before finally counting sheep.

Marko: I am always wondering how people such as yourself go about getting work? How do you do it?

Mat: I’m sitting pretty on a full-time position so I’d be just as interested to know.

Marko: Who are some of your biggest influences?

Mat: Starts with a T and ends with a racey!

Marko: Is your background in design? What was the progression into web development and design like?

Mat: Did a little art at school. Became engrossed in music. Realised that I would be a fool to pursue either as a career so went to University for 4 years to educate myself on something that resembled creativity – advertising. Wandered for a year with no job prospects before relocating and falling fortuitously into my current position.

Marko: If you where not a designer/programmer what would you be?

Mat: A copywriter. Despite being completely inept at maintaining my personal site with infrequent posts, I’ve always had a real affinity to writing.

Marko: How do you like our site mcville.net?

Mat: The interview slant is a winner. Web designers can be a little pretentious (we have blogs) so we’re always keen to jump at any chance to talk about ourselves.

Marko: If you could change something on mcville what would it be?

Mat: The favicon. It’s too small.

Marko: What kind of music do you fancy?

Mat: Jeff Buckley, Mellowdrone, Nathan Larson, Craig Wedren, Ed Harcourt, Pluto.

Marko: What’s your favorite food?

Mat: Yum cha. I love me some dim sum.

Marko: Where do you get out on Saturday’s?

Mat: I’ve become a little dull in recent months. Typically, I’m out with family for a bite to eat.

some relaxing question to follow

Marko: Chinese or Thai (food)?

Mat: Love Chinese, but it’s my daily square so Thai is a bit of a treat.

Marko: Coke or Pepsi?

Mat: Coke.

Marko: html or css?

Mat: CSS.

Marko: Do you watch television? If so, do you have a favorite show?

Mat: I do. Avid fan of Lost and I’m still hanging out for the second season to air here.

Marko: What would we find in your favorites bookmarks-bar?

Mat: I have a bounty of web-related ephemera but the last addition was the wonderful Whiskerino 2005.

Marko: What inspires you? This doesn’t have to be design related.

Mat: I think we both know. I apologise for being so soppy throughout this but love really does do that to you.

Marko: Thank for having this interview Mat ,Cheers!

Mat: Thanks Marko.
