Make Windows XP look like Mac OS X

Hi,

From my flickr Mac OS X screenshots I got a few dosen privat messages with questions “How did you do it?” , “Ok that’s just silly, …tell me how did you do that step by step” , “OMG I CAN HAZ TUT!” ,”omg I wanna marry you and have babies” - Ok I made that last one up ;D

So I decided to write a list of programs and skins that I used on mine, there won’t be step by step because there are so many directions that you can take.

Lets get started with some history

Ok so since Tiger came out with those neat effect and later Leopard Windows users where pretty unsatisfied with their OS UI capabilitys. So there where many “ok” transormation packs around. But some where very very good. Some like Flykite OSX v.3.5 (I’m NOT using it now, I strongly recommend you double think when installing it because the process back to windows is PAINFULL)

Ok so what are you using?

A Few weeks ago I stumbled upon couleurbleu’s iXP style and I have to say it’s very well done.

First of when you download and unpack it you’ll get :

  • FindeXer Nightly v1.1.0.3
  • FONT   (Lucida Grande Bold font files)
  • iXPstlyer   ( main files .msstyles ,and shell) -I’m managing the style with TuneUp Utilities 2008
  • Styler Toolbar
  • Styler1401.msi

I’m using TuneUp utilities to manage the .msstyles and I’m using it also for replacing windows icons with default Leopard icons that could be found here.

For the Explorer shell I’m using Styler1401 (you will find it in iXP), when installing use the Styler toolbar theme aka (MOD LEOPARD ) that’s in the set. When you successfully did this you’ll get something like this : Leo toolbar

notice I also have Firefox open (v3) The theme I’m using on it is still in beta (Camino theme) so be patient. :)

What did we do so far?

We installed the .msstyle and replaced the default icons with Leopard ones in “Tuneup” and changed the explorer shell theme using styler.

Now lets go to the fun stuff! The Dock!

I’m using Rocketdock. Its very easy to handle and pretty slick! The default dock theme is a bit “meh” so I suggest you get “Almost Leopard” theme that you could find here.

You want Leopard “Stacks” you Got it! Install the Stacks Docklet addon.

A few other stuff that might come in handy are the “Spotlight” aka MacSearch (v. 1.4.3)

So thats about that! Enjoy your Mac OS X ;D I hope have fun transforming your good ol xp to Mac.

If you have any questions. Feel free to ask!
